Lanzarote, one of the mesmerizing Canary Islands, is a treasure trove of natural beauty waiting to be uncovered. From the surreal Timanfaya National Park to secluded beaches along its rugged coastline, this volcanic island offers a myriad of experiences for curious travelers. Recently, I teamed up with Lanzarote VanCampers, and it completely transformed my Lanzarote adventure. In this article, I'll share how this partnership enhanced my trip, allowing me to discover the island's hidden treasures and experience its unique charm, one scenic drive at a time.
1. Famara Beach
After teaming up with the Lanzarote VanCampers, our first stop on this adventure was the enchanting Famara Beach. With our trusty van by our side, the journey of discovery began. Famara Beach welcomed us with open arms, revealing its pristine sands and dramatic cliffs that framed the horizon. The convenience of having the van made the visit even more special, as it provided us with the freedom to explore this captivating locale at our own pace. As the day gave way to evening, we were treated to a mesmerizing sunset, the sun dipping below the Atlantic Ocean in a burst of fiery colors. It was a sight that will forever be etched in our memories. With the van as our mobile haven, we decided to seize the moment and camped right there, with the soothing sound of ocean waves as our lullaby. Waking up to the soft morning light and the sound of the ocean waves was an experience like no other, making Famara Beach the perfect place to kickstart our Lanzarote adventure.

4. Papagayo Beach
Our next stop and the final destination of the day was Papagayo Beach, a pristine stretch of shoreline known for its picturesque beauty. With our trusty van leading the way, we arrived just in time to witness the magic of the sunset. We decided to camp right there, with the backdoor of the van serving as our private front-row seat to nature's breathtaking spectacle. The sun dipped below the horizon in a blaze of warm colors, casting a serene and golden glow over the tranquil waters.
Camping at Papagayo Beach was an experience that exceeded all expectations. Waking up to the gentle rays of the sunrise, we felt like we were in a dream. With the van as our home on wheels, we had the perfect vantage point to enjoy the sunrise over the ocean. It was a moment of tranquility and serenity, and it was then that I decided to capture the breathtaking scene with my trusty drone. I launched it, capturing the pristine shoreline and the rising sun, creating a mesmerizing bucket-list-worthy shot that would forever remind me of this unforgettable Lanzarote adventure.
Our journey across the island had already been a true testament to the freedom and versatility offered by our van, and as we savored these remarkable moments at Papagayo Beach, we couldn't help but feel grateful for the unforgettable experiences that had come our way.
5. James del Agua
The following day, we continued our Lanzarote expedition, making our way to Jameos del Agua. Our trusty van once again proved its worth as we embarked on this unique and mystical adventure.
Jameos del Agua is a place like no other, a series of underground caves and tunnels formed by ancient volcanic activity. These natural wonders have been transformed into a mesmerizing art and culture center designed by the famous artist César Manrique. Walking through the caves, we were captivated by the underground lagoon, where the delicate white crabs, unique to this location, added to the sense of wonder.
The van had made our journey to Jameos del Agua hassle-free, allowing us to explore this surreal subterranean world with ease. As we wandered through the caves and admired the artistic and architectural brilliance, we couldn't help but marvel at the incredible fusion of nature and human creativity.
Our visit to Jameos del Agua was yet another reminder of the boundless beauty and diversity that Lanzarote had to offer, and we were grateful for the freedom and convenience our van provided in exploring these unique treasures.
5. Timanfaya National Park and Volcán El Cuervo
The rest of the day was reserved for a visit to the awe-inspiring Timanfaya National Park, the crown jewel of Lanzarote's natural wonders. However, upon arrival, we made a conscious decision not to enter the park, as it can only be explored by guided bus tour, and we wanted to save money and avoid the crowds. Instead, our trusty van served as our reliable mode of transportation to reach the park's entrance.
Having decided to skip the bus tour, we set off to explore the surrounding areas, savoring the panoramic views of the otherworldly landscape. Timanfaya National Park, with its endless lava fields, dormant volcanoes, and mesmerizing geothermal activity, was no less captivating from the outside. It was an opportunity to have a more personal encounter with the raw power and beauty of Lanzarote's volcanic terrain.
As the day unfolded, we continued our adventure by heading to Volcán El Cuervo, our destination for witnessing the breathtaking sunset. The Montaña Negra, conveniently located just across the street from Volcán El Cuervo, offered the perfect vantage point for this magical moment.
From the Montaña Negra, we had an uninterrupted view of the majestic Volcán El Cuervo as the sun cast its warm, golden hues over the landscape. It was a photographer's dream come true, and the van made it easy for us to transition between these incredible locations.
Our decision to forgo the bus tour allowed us to have a more intimate and budget-friendly experience in Timanfaya National Park, and it proved to be a memorable part of our Lanzarote adventure. As the sun set over Volcán El Cuervo from the Montaña Negra, we reflected on the countless memories we had created during our journey. While our partnership with Lanzarote VanCampers had come to an end, the experiences and landscapes of Lanzarote would forever remain etched in our hearts, a testament to the remarkable journey we had embarked upon.
