The Abbey of Montserrat

Description

Did you know that Montserrat, which literally translates into serrated mountain, is a multi-peaked mountain range close to the city of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain? That on top of this mountain and protected by these impressive rock structures, we find the Abbey of Montserrat, which is also know as Santa Maria de Montserrat? That this abbey belongs to the Order of Saint Benedict was founded in the 11th century and later on rebuilt in the 19th and 20th century? And that to this day, Santa Maria de Montserrat still functions with over 70 monks of the Order of Saint Benedict? Maybe. But that’s just basic Wikipedia knowledge.

Connections to the Holy Grail

But did you also know that in 1940 Heinrich Himmler, leading member of the Nazi Party and Reichsführer of the Schutzstaffel, visited the Abbey of Montserrat in search for the Holy Grail, believing that finding this sacred artefact would help the Nazis “win the war and, moreover, give him supernatural powers?”" Now, that is news. “Evidently, [he] found nothing of merit on the mountain“ and “returned to Barcelona and flew back to Germany later that day, and over the next few years continued to take a leading part in the greatest mass murder in history.“
